Leonardo Vargas
“‘On the walls” displays some of the works and stages of the process in which the artist engaged during his residence period. The presented Artworks make use of visual elements surrounding the working/exhibition space at NDSM and aims to reflect on them as images. Several works on paper, a metal panel and two installations were part of the exhibition. The Artist makes use of the images that are constantly circulating around NDSM, advertising, posters, graffiti and assemble them when they have become leftovers. However, drastic modifications on the materials and images themselves take place during the process. The works on paper have a certain row appearance that provides the illusion of time (they look as if they had been made years ago) and are simply attached on the wall with industrial tape. An installation made with a couple of found posters at the end of the exhibition space and a metal panel hung as an advertising sing on the street give the viewer another vision of the images used. Some of them appear again throughout the different works. The works made at the Treehouse aim specifically to establish a dialogue with urban image circulation, a fact that is part of what goes on at NDSM.
